Don't let Guilt have a seat at the Table
Hello friends, patrons, and welcome to all comers,
Regardless of where you live my bet is that you are worried and confused about your path forward after this last year and a half plus during the pandemic. Conflicting news reports, wondering about double masking, how much hand sanitizer do I need, Oh No!! I just washed my vax card in the pocket of my black pants, should I be nicer to my mother in law...but I digress.
I have blamed Covid for the 15 lbs. I have gained, have secretly began to enjoy wearing a mask so that I don't have to interact with others, and have discovered that I think I might like being Harriet the Hermit! I find that I am tightening my grip on a couple of friendships that have run their courses. This is just so wrong the controlling way I am beginning to exist.
It dawns on me that as I tighten my grasp on a thousand assorted parts of my life I am trying desperately to gain control of a runaway horse heading for the cliff. In this odd Pandemic Prison that we find ourselves, we are holding on for dear life waiting for early release on good behavior and scrimping along on a thin gruel of lesser pleasures, bigger sweat pants, and balled fists of angst and worry as we search for a path forward.
I feel guilty because I make up excuses to not go to events that I actually used to enjoy. I feel guilty because I want to go back to the office to have some quiet time away from family. I feel guilty because children missed out on a year plus of socialization skills. I feel guilty that I top my salad with a half pound of bacon because I don't like lettuce.
I long for the happy days when I had a big ole bowl of ice cream and Madam Guilt was not at the table. I want to have a four course lunch with great friends for hours. I want to go on an expensive shopping spree and be guilt free as I look at my purchases and giggle. I want to wear red tights and black patent mary janes and a short dress despite my advanced age. I want to drink a little too much and sing with the radio, to plan, to dream, I want to be carefree and not check Facebook to see how many likes my post had. In short I want to be relaxed, I want to release the rigid hold on my life and let my soul enjoy the luxury of abundant bounty. When you see ZOZOBRA this Friday, those slips of paper that carry tiny flames to vanquish "Old Man Gloom" and all his Vitamin G is your signal to release and relax.
It dawns on me that if I loosen the grasp I can get rid of all that "Vitamin G" I have been taking. Vitamin G equals GUILT. I can replace it with Vitamin P..for me thats PLEASURE. I get a healthy dose of Vitamin P when I create a beautiful painting if I am relaxed. My "P" quotient goes up when I am planning a getaway with my Sweet Baboo, or sitting on the portal on a cool evening by a roaring outdoor fireplace ablaze with piñon. I can feel the effects of Vitamin P as I buy a favorite bottle of wine for the dinner I am planning. I think living from a celebratory grateful perch is it's own creator of Vitamin P.
Friends we must release the stress, let go the strangle hold we have on the control switch...... for all that is holy turn off that insane idiot box we have in all our rooms so that we can't know someone's take on the negative news situation they are reporting. Perform relaxation on purpose. So my suggestion to you is to grab that bottle of wine I mentioned and pour it into the most beautiful glass you have...breathe in the heady aroma of spices, herbs, or berries emanating from your glass and let go...that's its...just...let...go. Drop your shoulders, uncurl those fists, put on those red tights and enjoy the vast and full life that is right in front of you. There is absolutely NO room for GUILT to have a SEAT at your TABLE my dear!
I think you could get a great dose of Vitamin P by taking a look at the new creations on my website, Cynderoof.com And there's more to release from the easel very soon. Please drop me an email and let me know what you think of them at [email protected]
